Aim
This program is a pathway program that works through the qualifications Certificate III in Information Technology, Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) and Diploma of Information Technology (Networking). Over 18 months a program of learning builds upon participants’ skills in network support, providing skills in network administration and network/systems engineering with a focus on the ACT Department of Education and Training school network administrators’ requirements.
A person competent in these skill areas could expect to work in the general areas of network support and administration or network design and engineering depending on the level of qualification gained. Specifically a diploma graduate could manage network engineering projects after gaining some experience at the lower echelons of the IT industry.
Duration
The delivery of this program is 18 months full-time equivalent. Participants in this program are required to attend a number of scheduled intensive workshops over 60 weeks of tuition.
In addition to this, participants are expected to match this effort in their own time with reading and preparation for each topic and working on their projects and assignments.
Program Structure
Each qualification is made up of four modules.
These are:
Certificate III in IT
- Build a computer, install OS and applications
- Troubleshoot hardware and software
- Install network hardware
- User documentation and client support
Certificate IV in IT (networking)
- Build a server
- Build a network
- Security, scripting and troubleshooting
- Client service
Diploma of IT (networking)
- Design a series of networks
- Build a complex network and firewall
- Project manage the design and build of a complex network
- Manage security
